It’s been a busy stretch at Theta Data. Over the past several weeks in September, we’ve shipped new tools to find and access our data, expanded our support hours, grown the team, and made our company name official. Here’s a rundown of what’s new, plus a preview of what’s coming next.

New features:

Discord account linking:

You can now link your Theta Data account to Discord directly from the portal. Once your accounts are synced, you’ll automatically receive the subscriber role in our Discord server.

Symbol lookup page:

Want to know whether we cover a ticker before you start building? Our new Symbol Lookup page lets you search any symbol to see whether it’s covered and how far back the historical data goes.

Binomial Greeks:

We now offer binomial Greeks alongside our existing Greeks calculations. The binomial model is well suited to American-style options, where early exercise matters. See the Option Greeks documentation for details on how to request them.

Option quote 1-minute interval flat files:

Option quotes are now available as 1-minute interval flat files, making it easier to pull large volumes of intraday option quote data in a single download.

Better support, more often:

We’ve made some of our biggest support upgrades yet:

  • Pre-market support: Our team is now available starting at 8 AM ET, so you can get help before the opening bell.
  • Weekend support: We now offer support on Saturdays and Sundays from 9 AM to 5 PM ET.
  • A human in 5 minutes: During business hours, you’re guaranteed a response from a real person within 5 minutes.
  • 24/5 support is coming soon: We’re working toward round-the-clock support, 24 hours a day, five days a week.

Monthly Discord Q&A:

We now hold Discord Q&A sessions once a month. Bring your questions about the API, data coverage, or upcoming features and get answers directly from the team. Keep an eye on Discord for the next date.

Company news:

Our team is growing:

We have increased our headcount by 25% since September, focusing on engineering and support.

Coming soon:

Here’s what our engineering team is working on now. These are in progress and expected to land in the near future:

  • Current-day-only snapshot parameter: A new current_day_only parameter will limit snapshot results to the current day. It replaces the workaround of setting min_time to 00:00. Our snapshot cache no longer fully resets at midnight, so a snapshot request can return data from the previous trading day. This look-back period is limited to 7 full calendar days.
  • Stock quote 1-minute interval flat files: The same 1-minute interval format now available for option quotes, extended to stock quotes.
  • Bulk current-day requests with expiration=*: Request current-day data across all expirations in a single call.
  • Status Page: A public status page where you can check the real-time health of our services and see any ongoing incidents, scheduled maintenance, and historical uptime. You can subscribe to updates so you’re notified as soon as we post about issues affecting your data feeds.

Stay tuned:

We’re committed to making Theta Data the most reliable and accessible source of market data, and there’s much more on the way. Watch for upcoming announcements on our blog page and in Discord as the features above roll out. As always, we welcome your feedback. It plays a direct role in shaping what we build next.

Every Trade. Every Quote. Real Time.
